New DVD

Review
This professional and very watchable DVD should not be compared with the amateur offerings that I have tried in the past. The image quality is first class and it is further enhanced with John’s slick editing. All the cars at our Annual Rally appear in the filming and there are some very interesting interviews including Rob Green, Steve Myers and Frank Milward describing their Triumphs. The prize giving, conducted by David Mason, comes across particularly well, starting with Roger Ballard’s (VSCC President) complementary remarks about our cars and the club. Then as each winner comes forward to be presented with a trophy, their car also appears on the screen, to very good effect, with the aid from some clever trickery!
The filming comes to a logical end with many shots of us waving goodbye as our cars leave the ‘Tilting Lawn’ and head for home.
Added features are a ‘slide show’ of many photos taken on the day, and previews of other Triumph DVDs that John has produced. These include the interesting histories of the Spitfire, Stag and TR7 (further information on these and other DVD’s of John’s are on his www.triumphdvd.co.uk website).
Overall this DVD (lasting approximately 60 minutes) represents an excellent record of what is generally considered one of our best Annual Rallies in recent years. If you were there it’s a great reminder of a fine day and if you were not there it should inspire you to come along to next year’s event. It also represents a great advert for the Club and our cars for those who buy it from outside our club.
The Club is grateful to John and his wife, Susanne, for the great effort they went to, from travelling, in their TR7, up from Cornwall to all the work involved in producing such a fine product. We also wish to thank John for his very generous offer of donating £5 from each DVD sale to club funds (which he wishes to go towards the financing of spares). - Graham

It made John & Susanne’s day when they got
the rare opportunity to park their ‘super’ Seven
next to a Super Seven at the end of our Annual Rally.
We met Graham at the Triumph Marque Day at Duxford earlier this year after he’d just arrived with his beautiful Gloria. We got talking and I mentioned that I was working on a DVD all about the Spitfire, Herald and GT6 and that I was hoping to do something with pre-war Triumphs next year. I have a long term ambition to produce a film illustrating the complete history of our favourite brand, something that came about largely due to reading the Robson/Langworth book. Whilst I was reading this I kept thinking “this would make an excellent film!” And then I realized it, no one else would ever try.
So we came to your Annual Rally to get shots of pre-war Triumphs for inclusion in my long-term project of producing a DVD to cover the entire history of Triumph cars. However, when the day was over and we returned to the hotel I set about downloading the tapes onto my laptop. I couldn’t believe how good the cars looked when filling the screen and this gave me the idea that perhaps it would be worthwhile putting it all together and issuing a bespoke DVD. So as I write this the DVD is ready to go and I think it is something that members of the club will enjoy. I also hope plenty of others outside of the club will see it and it will help fuel interest in pre-war Triumphs in some small way.
All that remains to be said is thank you for a wonderful day at Rockingham Castle.
John Clancy.
